What Is A Swedish Massage & A Deep Tissue Massage?

Swedish massage is the most widely recognized and commonly used type of massage. The techniques used vary from light to vigorous and used five styles of strokes. The five basic stroked are effleurage (sliding or gliding), petrissage (kneading), tapotement (rhythmic tapping), friction (cross fiber or with the fibers), and vibration. Swedish massage has been known to be helpful in reducing pain and joint stiffness.

Therapeutic deep tissue massage is similar to Swedish massage, but the deeper pressure is beneficial in releasing chronic muscle tension. The focus is on the deepest layers of muscle tissue, tendons and fascia (the protective layer surrounding muscles, bones, and joints). The benefits include a drop in blood pressure, reduction in stress and hormone levels, while boosting heart rate and mood.
